How to convert European size to Australian sizing for sports bras

11th Aug 2017

How to convert European sizes to Australian sizes can be a bit tricky. Especially with sports bras as there is no clear standard for Australian sizing. This means that every brand can create their own size range. And when you look over the years and decades there has indeed been some change in the size of Australian sports bras.

However, here you are at the Q-Linn sports bra website. And all the sizes are European! We don't measure in inches, but in centimetres.

So how do you know what size to order? The best way is to measure yourself:

So grab yourself a measuring tape, a piece of paper and a pen. First measure the band size. You do this by having the measurement tape around your ribs, just under your breasts. Pull firmly as the measuring tape doesn't have any stretch in it, and you bra band does!... Write the number down. (measurement A)

Now, slide the tape up over your breasts and measure where your breast are the widest. (usually just under the arm pits and over the nipple area) Not too loose, not too tight. The measurement tape should be on your breasts, but not dig in.

Take this measurement and write it down on the same piece of paper. (Measurement B)

Now - here is the important part. The first measurement you took (A) - round this number DOWN to the nearest 5 or 0. For example, if you measured 88cm you round down to 85. But if you measured 84cm you round down to 80cm.

With the second measurement (B), we go in the opposite direction. You round this number UP to the nearest number on the sizing table. (see below)

Converting European sizing to Australian sizing

Now we can start the conversion step. For example the two measurements you took are:

(A) 88 cm --> round down to 85cm

(B) 108cm --> round up to 110cm

Looking at the Q-Linn sizing table I would order the 85F size. This is equivalent to 16E in most Australian brands (but not all! so be careful with this. Don't make the assumption that because your current bra is 16E you can order the same size for your Q-Linn bra)

The Barcelona bra is the perfect choice for this size.

DD cup

When you look closely to the table on the right, you will notice that the European Q-Linn sizing doesn't have a DD cup. Q-Linn uses a direct sizing strategy for the cup sizes: A, B, C, D, E, F, etc.

When we converted the European sizing to Australian Sizing we added in the DD cup. This is because we know that many Australian women are used to the DD cups size.

This means that you will need to keep in mind that from the DD size there will be a difference between the European size and the Australian size.

For example: 75E = 12DD and 85G = 16F
